Bill Cohen's masterpiece

Bill Cohen introduces a new discourse to the Victorian Sexuality academic world: the Scandal. This book looks at the way in which Wilde's trial and sexuality during the late 19th century evolved into scandalous acts. I don't want to take too much time developing his ideas in this review but one must read this book in order to understand another discursive element in Victorian literature. Cohen developes the homology between sexuality and literature as the unspeakable, and uses these concepts to look at the Wilde trials, Wilde's literature, and other contemporaneous writers' works like James.

Essential Reading

True Lies is essential reading for absolutely everyone. If you know any people who have a body(!) - this will help you immeasurably to know more about what they are really SAYING, even if they are sitting silently. Stu Dunn gives excellent context and overview for approaching body language in general, and highlights each chapter with essential tips that you can easily remember. For those who are familiar with the popular TV show, Lie to Me, you will be familiar with many terms, but this book will give you enough real research and knowledge to make it all understandable and therefore even more enjoyable. Professionals and novices will appreciate True Lies as it provides both an overview, and sufficient details for learning subtle points, plus it is full of handy reference charts and photos. Stu's writing style is VERY READABLE and enjoyable, with just enough touches of humor and personal perspectives to give you an extra, genuine smile.

Much of this material is available in Stu's online study course through SDL. As a student of his and now expert in micro-expression detection myself, I can't recommend highly enough the benefits that you will forever receive. For those particularly interested in deception detection, your assumptions will turn in to knowledge very soon as you will KNOW what you are looking at and what meanings can, and can't, be inferred from various macro and micro body language and vocal cues. What I like about this book is it is well written and easy to understand. It will help me to dealing with all types of people and knowing a better way to understand a person through reactions of the person.

.....still "reviewing" the book as I've recently purchased several on Mapplethorpe including the movie CD of his life with Sam Wagstaff. I did view the movie which I also recommend having. It just helps explain the man....actually both men to some degree. Mapplethorpe was a complicated man....or so it seems through the eyes of books about him and of course his photography. If you're a collector of all things Mapplethorpe this is one for the collection.

Joyce Appleby is Professor of History at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is the author of Economic Thought and Ideology in Seventeenth-Century England which was awarded the 1979 Berkshire book prize.

In addition to being a best selling textbook author, ALAN BRINKLEY is the Allan Nevins Professor of History and former Provost at Columbia University. He is the author of Voices of Protest: Huey Long, Father Coughlin, and the Great Depression, which won the 1983 National Book Award; The End of Reform: New Deal Liberalism in Recession and War; and Liberalism and its Discontents. His most recent books are "John F. Kennedy: The American Presidents Series: The 35th President, 1961-1963" and "The Publisher: Henry Luce and His American Century" both published recently. He was educated at Princeton and Harvard and taught previously at MIT, Harvard, and the City University Graduate School before joining the Columbia faculty In 1991. In 1998-1999, he was the Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University. He won the Joseph R. Levenson Memorial Teaching Award at Harvard in 1987 and the Great Teacher Award at Columbia in 2003. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the board of trustees of the National Humanities Center and Oxford University Press, and chairman of the board of trustees of the Century Foundation. He has been a visiting professor at Princeton, the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris), and the University of Torino (Italy). James M. McPherson is a distinguished Civil War historian. He won the 1989 Pulitzer Prize for his book BATTLE CRY OF FREEDOM: THE CIVIL WAR ERA. His other publications include MARCHING TOWARD FREEDOM: BLACKS IN THE CIVIL WAR, Second Edition (1991); ORDEAL BY FIRE: THE CIVIL WAR AND RECONSTRUCTION, Third Edition (2001); ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND THE SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION (1991); FOR CAUSE AND COMRADES: WHY MEN FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR (1997), which won the Lincoln Prize in 1998; CROSSROADS OF FREEDOM: ANTIETAM (2002); HALLOWED GROUND: A WALK AT GETTYSBURG (2003); and TRIED BY WAR: ABRAHAM LINCOLN AS COMMANDER IN CHIEF (2008), which won the Lincoln Prize for 2009. Professor McPherson served as president of the American Historical Association (2003-2004).

Good overview of imaging techniques

This book gives a clear, usable overview of many imaging techniques currently in use for medical imaging. It is not for laymen, as it delves into the mathematical basis for the techniques. However, for an engineer there is a satisying amount of detail with a concise overview.

Good for Computed Tomography

Well, I'm using this book as a reference text for the graduate medical imaging systems course. It's relatively an out of date book, but it covers the most important aspects of Computed Tomography. If you're used to "easy to read" books which are published a lot these days, you'll find the language of this book a little complicated with relatively strange notations. But once you get used to it, you'll definitly enjoy your reading.

At any rate, if you're ready for some math and advanced calculus and you want to learn about the basics of CT, it worths trying.
