Surprisingly good

I got this book free so my expectations were not high but it was very good. I enjoyed both Violet and Lucas' characters. Violet is a strong female who learns to open up more and live a little. Lucas is a demon with a heart. I definitely intend to read more.

Good paranormal read

This was such an interesting take on angels! I had no idea what to expect going into this but I did enjoyed it. Violet is the snarky, sarcastic heroine, and she's also an angel. Lucas is the former angel turned demon, also known as Death from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The book is told in both their POVs, which was great, since I loved getting to see both their perspectives, the emotional angst from them.

Violet is a very... interesting character. She's a bit too harsh and critical of things for my liking, but I enjoyed her brashness and toughness. She's a pretty badass angel. She fights very well (she's already killed 99 demons!) and isn't afraid to fight bigger and badder things. The best part about her is the emotional turmoil going on when she sees her former lover, Lucas, who's now... evil. She loved him once, back when he was an angel and, well, good, but now... she has to kill him. Isn't that just the most intriguing thing ever? Having to kill the love of your life because he turned evil. Like, wow.

I think I liked reading Lucas's POV more than Violet's, because he didn't grate on my nerves as much as Violet did. Plus, he's got even more angst inside of him. He's a freaking demon, but used to be good. He's still in love with Violet, but he's got evil urges within him that make his want to kill her and pretty much everything else in the world. He has to hold himself back, because he doesn't want to kill Violet. What he wants is her, but a relationship between them now is even more forbidden than it already was before Lucas turned dark. Like I said, SO much angst.

When Lucas and Violet see each other again, the feelings they have between them are explosive. They want to kill each other one second, and lust for each other the next. There was both love and hate, and you never knew what you were going to get each time they saw each other. The story is very fast paced, with fight scenes and sexy scenes throughout. If you're looking for an action-y, paranormal romance with a little bittersweetness, then you should definitely check out Dark Wings. There's also going to be a sequel in The Never Dark series called Torn Wings!

I wasn't sure I would be into this book until I began reading it and realized I couldn't put it down....very different.....loved the constant conflicted feelings and inner turmoil they went through due to their love for each other and then the end....very selfless act and cant wait for book 2 "Torn Wings" in 2014...thx SM

Great Book

This book tells of the political struggles in a small town and the need for power by the politicians.

It also tells how the politicians tried to control the actions of the police department but the Police Chief would not let them do that.

It documents the corruption of its politicians and holds nothing back about the persons depicted in the book. I highly suggest reading this book if you have any interest in small town back room political antics.

Good local history book

The events in this book happened while I was away at college, so it was very interesting for me to read about everything that was going on in town at that time. When I graduated, I actually got a job at the Coventry Police Department, but all the excitement/drama had settled down.I found it an interesting read, because I knew most of the people mentioned in the book. The book also clarified some of the gossip and rumors that were flying around town. This story is told from the author's point of view. I believe he is honest and candid and he even admits, he made some bad decisions. Things were very loose back then, so I can understand why things happened the way they did. I enjoyed this book, because the author got into specifics with stories, quotes and events. His descriptions were so vivid, that you can actually picture where the events took place in town and the stories have logic to them. The author uses his feelings, beliefs and his past actions in describing the events and explains why he made the decisions he made. This is a great book to read if you want to learn about the history of Coventry, Rhode Island or better yet, if you enjoy reading about small time politics in a small state. This book confirms that Rhode Island was and is a very corrupt state!

Or maybe you don’t even like resting because you feel like you’re not being productive? Then, Rhythms of Grace: Discovering God’s Tempo for Your Life by Kerri Weems should be next on your reading list. Obligations, priorities, goals and dreams. Where does it all fit?

Frazzled. Burnt-out.
Distracted.
Stretched thin. Weary.

None of those are pretty images, but they're sure vivid.
And who hasn't experienced a period of time when those words are your reality?

Sometimes stress comes with a season- new job, no job, holidays, college, illness- and it will pass in time.
But sometimes, your life will need restructuring to reclaim "shalom" as much as possible.

Kerri Weems begins this book by discussing that- "shalom."
This old Hebrew word fascinates me, because it hints at wholeness and healing through all of our lives.
It suggests everything being as it should be, moving to a rhythm of grace.

St. Paul compared life to a long distance run, where ground is gained by one-foot-in-front-of-the-other persistence. Each person needs a pace they can sustain without sacrificing their sanity or soul.
This book is a straight-talking, compassionate guide to setting your pace in all areas: relationships, family and home, work, your schedule, your health, and your spiritual vitality.

Kerri suggests we establish a cycle of rebooting, taking time to reflect on what's working for us and what's not. Then she encourages us to dream a little, imagining a future of priorities and purpose.
She reminds us that "We cannot conquer time, we can only sanctify and redeem it."

Especially now, with the holiday season coming, I think there will be many people wondering how they're going to "run the race" in 2015. They're tired, worn out, and burdened. They know they can't stop moving, so many people depend on them!
Perhaps this book would become a gentle guide for them. It would say "I know you can't stop running, but let's take a look at your pace. Let's reboot yours days, weeks, and months so that next year is less draining." If you need a last minute gift, you could certainly look at Rhythms of Grace.

Beautiful Book for Discovering Margin and Peace in Your Schedule

Rhythms of Grace: Discovering God’s Tempo for Your Life by Kerri Weems is a book that is written for women who feel a little overwhelmed. Is your schedule driving you? Do you feel like you’re constantly busy but accomplishing nothing? Do you feel need for a little more margin and rest in your life? Do you want to be able to connect your schedule to God’s mission for you in life?

If you could answer yes to any of these questions, Weems has a word for you. Rhythms of Grace is about putting the important things first in your weekly rhythm, and making those the things that are important parts of your day. She begins with the idea of finding shalom in your lifestyle, and about how our culture that is driven by work and productivity will never allow us to naturally make space for peace and rest in our lives.

She explores the sabbath and rest. She discusses whether or not your doing the right things for the right reasons or for the wrong reasons because the right things, if done for the wrong reasons, are still the wrong things. After this discussion, she comes to the heart of her book with the idea that there are “pacesetters” and “peacestealers,” These “pacesetters” are the good things and situations that set the pace of our lives. However, many of them, if not given their proper place in our lives can become “peacestealers” and take the peace in our lives away. The four areas of life where Weems marks these pacesetters and peacestealers is through work, relationships, our bodies and our spiritual vitality.

Once you’ve determined these entities (and the questions at the end of each chapter will help you to do so), you are ready to reboot your schedule. This means you take these pacesetters, your commitments, etc. and you begin to set up your weekly rhythm and daily schedule for your life.

I found this book to be a beautiful reminder that time management is about more than just filling in the boxes on your calendar. Instead, this book is about how your schedule should be birthed out of the things and people who are most important to you, and that you should always leave time to rest and recharge. I hope to find that as I continue to reset my schedule that the lessons learned here will help my days to be a little less frantic.

Pure inspiration: a pot of gold awaits the thoughtful reader

Ms. Carlino provides an almost mystical insight into our most personal thoughts. Not only are Ms. Carlino's words inspirational, the author provides examples and tools that help the reader work through a process of self-understanding and self-improvement. The imagery provided by the seven colors of the rainbow serves to underscore the differences each of us have in measuring the importance of work, play, family, and God in our daily lives. At the same time, the rainbow underscores our common need to keep them all in balance if we are to live happy and productive lives. It is only through a merging of these colors that we are able to truly fulfilled.
The Rainbow Connection offers something of value to everyone who has the pleasure of reading it, regardless of age or background. Ms. Carlino speaks to the importance of our spiritual needs and how we must attend to them if we are to be complete human beings. About the Author
Born in Eastern Tibet in 1938, Ch�gyal Namkhai Norbu�is an internationally known Dzogchen Buddhist teacher and author. The direct descendant of the first Dzogchen Tibetan master of Tibet, Norbu spent his childhood receiving many teachings from masters of various traditions. In the 1960s he was invited to teach in Italy. During his career he wrote many books on Tibetan culture and Dzogchen Buddhism. He is the founder of two nonprofit organizations including the Shang Shung Institute for Tibetan Studies, which is dedicated to the preservation of Tibetan culture.

Born and raised in Italy, Fabio Andrico�is an internationally recognized expert in the unique tradition of Tibetan yoga known as yantra yoga. Currently a hatha and yantra yoga instructor and teacher trainer, he studied directly under Tibetan scholar and Dzogchen master Chogyal Namkhai Norbu.

A much clearer addition to the Yantra Yoga library

This book provides a clearer and more detailed explanation and demonstration of the 18 preliminary exercises and 25 basic yantras in the yoga system taught by Namkhai Norbu. The first book provided line drawings made from photos and a terse explanation of the movements based on the Tibetan root text. Together with the DVD series, the first book (which gives the very logical variations on the 25 basic poses) was sufficient for a dedicated practitioner with some background in hatha yoga to work things out for themselves safely and in accordance with the teachings.

The new book gives a much clearer, better-illustrated, and comprehensive explanation of the 25 basic yantras. What is particularly useful are the various tips and suggestions the authors make about adapting the yantra to your physical limits (weight, age, stiffness, etc.) so that you are able to practice the yantra and obtain the benefits (which are every real and which manifest themselves very quickly) without feeling that your opractice is somehow inferior or incomplete, or just not as good as the much younger and more limber models whose photographs appear in the book.

I would recommend using this book with the DVD sets, as it is a bit difficult to actually receive instruction in these yantra from one of Namkhai Norbu's teachers.

Fantastic introduction to Yantra Yoga

This beautifully designed book is a great introduction to an ancient system of Tibetan Yoga that seems to provide so much benefit in modern times. The book is amazingly designed with beautiful color illustrations, easy to follow instructions, clear and in depth descriptions of what Yantra Yoga is and instructions on the movements, as well as an entire section wonderfully illustrated for warm ups exercises that cannot be found in any other yoga text I have used. From this book you can understand that the system of Yantra Yoga is unique and unlike any other yoga system you have encountered in a yoga market saturated with so many different forms, real and not so real. Also there are recommended sessions with a variety of times based on the schedule of the user, so you can do longer sessions and shorter, and all are complete within themselves. This book is also a great compliment for the video, Yantra Yoga the Tibetan Yoga of Movement, which I also own. Using these 2 tools together can help to enable someone to follow and develop some sort of Yantra Yoga practice. What I did notice was that I found that once reading the book and watching the video, I kind of longed to find a class where I could learn from a qualified instructor, as both Ch�gyal Namkhai Norbu, the author of the original text and holder of this lineage of Yantra Yoga, and Fabio Andrico, one of the 2 main international instructors and author of this text, recommend. I looked around on the internet and did discover a website called yantrayoga.org that has listings of classes around the world. As far as books on yoga, this book rates as the top one in my library at this time, and therefore the system of yantra yoga is something I am so happy to have discovered and hope I can pursue more in depth. Kudos to Ch�gyal Namkhai Norbu for bringing this text into the modern age and Fabio Andrico for providing us with this marvelous, accessible text!

Clear, vital instruction.

If you know of Yantra Yoga, there is no need to discuss it's key role in the cultivation of meditation experience. Rather, what stands out with this yoga manual is it's extraordinary clarity of instruction.
